Dental practice // Lausanne

Creating welcoming atmospheres, even in unexpected venues, Studio Julia Christ rethinks the codes of traditional medical practices. Say goodbye to the usual aseptic white colour of medical waiting rooms! With her palette of bright shades, the architect has designed the practice of orthodontist Dr. Luis Huanca for a joyful visit to the dentist.

As soon as you enter the room, a vibrant and playful universe comes to life. The bespoke reception area and rounded furniture invite new patients to wait comfortably. In this one of a kind waiting space, a replica of an arcade game entertains young, and not-so-young, patients! Moreover, a photo booth where the artist Nicolas Bamert has been invited to create an immersive fluorescent environment, enables them to immortalize this moment.

Studio Julia Christ has dressed up the hallways with a large mural – a graphic trompe-l'oeil inspired by the master of the genre Escher – that gives an architectural perspective to the space. To complement it, a landscape with organic shapes created in collaboration with guest illustrator Anaïs Coulon sets the decor for the wardrobe.

Facing a series of smiling portraits in black and white, the soft green anamorphosis YOU SMILE I SMILE – the practice’s motto – warmly surrounds patients on their way to the consultation rooms. Everything is thought through down to the smallest detail to make a visit to the dentist more fun!

Each room has its own colour! Custom-made wallpapers created by the studio and soft textures subtly adorn the space, without disturbing the medical area. In addition to the armchair and the dedicated high-tech equipment, velvet banquettes in soothing hues and geometric wall patterns structure the space. These colourful hints brighten up the atmosphere of this new generation of dental practice.
