Café L’Aimant // Bussigny

To bring generations together and strengthen social ties, the public space must more than ever play its convening role within communities. To do so, architecture is a key player. Initiated by the Foundation Les Baumettes and designed by Studio Julia Christ, Café L’Aimant is born out of the desire to create a place of exchange and sharing.

To address to the social and cultural purpose of Café L’Aimant, Studio Julia Christ has conceived a bespoke space that fosters intergenerational encounters and helps forge new ties between residents of the neighbourhood.

The vibrant energy coming from a precise composition of shapes and colours creates a warm and cheerful atmosphere. In perfect balance between the social club and the contemporary brasserie, this lively place gathers youth and seniors together.

Bathed in natural light, the space is built to enable people to connect with each other in three different atmospheres: a more intimate lounge area, a restaurant area where you can sit down in small groups, and a large common table that stimulates discussion.

From the entry hall, corrugated glass and oak wood give a rhythm to the space. As the activities organised by the Foundation brings a dynamic life around the bar, a modular approach has been chosen: the tables can easily be combined according the needs of the community. Reflecting the lively atmosphere of the café, the cement tile floor is designed according to a custom pattern layout in order to create a subtle visual effect.

The hand-made wooden bar, stools and cement tiles pay tribute to high-end craftsmanship, echoing the human values and vocation of the place! In natural materials, the refined selection of furniture and lighting brings a feeling of softness and conviviality to the space. A more confidential ambiance has been created in the lounge corner, thanks to the deep hues and the rich texture of velvet.

From the menu and the website to the interior signage, every details of the fresh and colourful branding designed by Studio Julia Christ celebrate the zest of life and spreads good vibes.

With an eco-friendly and ethical philosophy, the café offers creative and tasty cuisine, while paying particular attention to the selection of products, which come mostly from local production. Thus, it also contributes to the development of the regional economy.

On the terrace of this restaurant, entirely designed by Studio Julia Christ, the distinctive touch of vibrant colours is a joyful call to gather. With a rich cultural agenda, Café L’Aimant stands out in its unifying role.
